Job Details

The Peng group in the School of Public and International Affairs and the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment is seeking applications for postdoctoral or more senior research associate positions. Dr. Wei Peng's group (www.weipengenergy.com) focuses on modeling institutional and human dimensions of energy transition to identify realistic and robust decarbonization strategies and provide insights for integrated policy making for climate, energy, and health. The appointment will be through the Center for Policy Research on Energy and the Environment at Princeton's School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA).

The researcher is expected to contribute to one or both of the group's core research areas:

  1. Realistic energy transition pathways: Incorporate political economy insights into energy system modeling to better represent social and political realities; Health effects of deep decarbonization: Identify features of energy strategies that can yield robust health benefits given deep future uncertainties.

In particular, the research topics of high priority this year include:

  • Evaluating energy strategies and resulting tradeoffs using exploratory modeling and scenario discovery approaches; Endogenizing policy processes and choices by combining stylized and technology-rich models; Assessing multi-scale energy transitions by coupling global integrated assessment models (IAMs) with subnational macro-energy systems models Understanding future health impacts from heat and air pollution co-exposure based on global IAM and climate model outputs.

Individuals with expertise in relevant modeling methods are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to integrated assessment modeling, energy system modeling, climate and air quality modeling, and agent-based modeling. All candidates must have strong, demonstrated research ability, be very comfortable in an interdisciplinary research environment, have excellent English written and spoken communication skills, and possess a PhD in a relevant field.

The term of appointment is based on rank. Positions at the postdoctoral rank are for one year with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and continued funding; those hired at more senior ranks may have multi-year appointments. Salary and full employee benefits are offered in accordance with Princeton University guidelines.

Applicants must submit a CV, contact information for three references, and a cover letter describing their areas of expertise and interest. References may be contacted for the candidates who make the shortlist for this position. Applicants must apply online via: https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/37101.

The review of applications will start on January 15, 2025, and will continue until positions are filled. This position is subject to the University's background check policy. The work location for this position is in-person on campus at Princeton University. Inquiries about the positions may be sent to weipeng@princeton.edu.

The Princeton School of Public and International Affairs is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching and service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. We actively seek colleagues of exceptional ability who represent a broad range of viewpoints, experience and value systems and who share Princeton University's dedication to excellence and service.

Princeton University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
