The GeoFEW Lab (www.geofew.org) in the School of Earth Systems and Sustainability at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale invites students to apply for a doctoral Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) to be funded by the NSF and NASA. You must have a Master’s degree prior to starting this position. The selected person is expected to have at least three years of GRA support, assuming satisfactory progress has been made each year.
The GRA will assist the project PI/Co-PIs in developing a hydrological digital twin and deep learning models. The GRA will be closely mentored by project PI/Co-PIs through one-to-one and group meetings, and be provided with critical resources such as technical training, conference travels, and career development.
Preferred qualifications for the GRA position:
- Master’s degree in Geography, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or closely related discipline. Demonstrated experience in deep neural network development, groundwater modeling (MODFLOW), Python, and GIS big data analysis. Outstanding communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.
