This a paid fellowship in which early career scientists participate in R&D at the FBI Laboratory.

TOPIC
The FBI Laboratory is seeking a candidate for a research appointment. This geophysicist will explore the suitability of GPR and magnetometry (and other methods as needed) to locate targets of interest to Law Enforcement (buried weapons, clandestine graves, buried vehicles, ect.).  The role may include planning, conducting, and interpreting geophysical surveys at sites of interest to law enforcement, as well as researching the suitability of methods for specific targets of interest.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
A candidate with a M.S. or PhD in geophysics (preferred) or related field (geology, soil science, archaeology, civil engineering) applying near surface geophysics techniques.


DESIRED SKILLS:
Good oral and written communication skills, particularly ability to communicate technical results to a non-technical audience. Ability to work independently, yet follow direction in circumstances requiring adherence to protocols. 
Competence with processing and interpreting geophysical data, to include GPR.


WHAT THIS IS AND HOW TO APPLY:
This is an opportunity for a temporary appointment in the Visiting Scientist Program at the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, Virginia. The program is a fellowship administered by Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). The appointment will be awarded in one year increments, but is annually renewable depending on need and availability of funding for up to five years.
