  • Salary: Grade 7/8/9, £40,247- £45,163 / £49,250 - £56,921 /£58,596 - £65,814 per annum.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week) and is open-ended.

The University of Glasgow, established in 1451, is a member of the UK's Russell Group of leading universities. The University is committed to enhancing its position as one of the world's great broad-based research-intensive universities.

The School of Geographical and Earth Sciences seeks a dynamic researcher and instructor who conducts research and scholarship in Global Terrestrial Water. This position is one of three positions associated with a cluster hire in Building a Habitable Planet.

We seek candidates with expertise focusing on catchment to regional and global scale surface water hydrology; the influence of weather and climate change on surface waters, Earth’s surface, or communities; or real-time (big-data) analysis of meteorologic and hydrologic data streams. Approaches integrating field and GIS, remote-sensing or geodetic data with process-based models are encouraged to apply. Additionally, we seek candidates who complement existing school strengths in fluvial geomorphology, water chemistry, and freshwater ecology.  The candidate is expected to develop (Grade 7), or bring with them (Grade 8/9), a vigorous and externally funded research program and to play a leading role in GIS, remote sensing, or geodesy-based research at the university.

You will support undergraduate teaching in the geographical and environmental sciences and postgraduate (MSc) programs in Geomatics, Climate and Environmental Science, Sustainable Water Environments, and Earth Futures.  Teaching contributions will be in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in GIS, remote sensing and/or geodesy, field excursions, and surface and groundwater hydrology. We are particularly interested in candidates with a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to scholarship. You will benefit from existing high-performance computing resources in the school, as well as existing expertise in field observations, scientific computing and data science/AI methods. Furthermore, we seek individuals who will deliver an excellent student experience through teaching and assessment and contribute to school management and administration.

At Grades 8 or 9, demonstrated leadership, prior external funding, and contributions to academic and strategic management are required.
